The activity of the day will be a Route 66 driving tour departing at 8:30 AM. The route will go south on the 1926-30 alignment which contains sections of the original brick and 12 foot wide pavement.

We’ll pass thru small Illinois farming communities ending up at Country Classic Cars located in Staunton. The 60 mile drive to Staunton will take approximately 2 1/2 hours with stops of interest along the way. The facility has over 600 antique cars for sale and it will take around 90 minutes to take it all in.

The tour will head north on the 1930-40 Rt. 66 alignment after visiting Country Classic Cars. We will stop at Sholsby service in Mount Olive for a photo opportunity on our way to our lunch destination at the Ariston Café in Litchfield. Arrival time is expected to be at 1 PM. This restaurant has been in continuous service since 1935. Directly across the street from the Ariston is the Litchfield Rt. 66 museum which will be open for our guests to visit at their leisure after eating lunch.

The drive back to Springfield will be on the 1940-77 Rt. 66 Alignment, with the return trip taking around 90 minutes, arriving at the hotel around 3:30. For those in a hurry back to the hotel, the trip can be made on the interstate alongside Rt. 66 in 50 minutes.

At 6 PM we will be departing the hotel, driving to ROUTE 66 MOTOR- HEADS BAR, GRILL & MUSEUM. The 8 mile drive will be at a leisurely pace around Lake Springfield avoiding stoplights and interstates.

Friday, June 18

The Springfield Visitors & Convention Center has set up alternating scheduled group tours of local attractions within a 5 mile drive from the host hotel. Parking is available close to the Dana Thomas House and the club has arranged for secure parking garage group space for the State Capital and Lincoln museums.

The Dana-Thomas House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1902 is a must see.

Old State Capital State Historic Site: In this historic building Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous “House Divided” speech in the days preceding the Civil War. The building contains the original furnishings from the period of Lincoln’s legislative years from 1837 to 1860.

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum: Definitely another Springfield “must see attraction” You won’t believe the exhibit “Ghosts of the Library” which is a dramatic and magical special effects presentation that uses Holavision developed by the Disney Company.

Friday Late Afternoon and Evening: The Lincoln Land region has secured a large tent for the meet and can be used in the afternoon as a swap meet area if needed.

The Hilton hotel will be providing a BBQ dinner at 6 PM. The dinner will be informal and our guests can take advantage of the outside tent, registration room patio, or banquet room to socialize. After the BBQ is over the Chief Car Show Judge will hold a meeting for entrants and car show judges.

Saturday, June 19

Early morning photos will be taken first of all cars and their owners. Judging of cars will be accomplished by a three lane “drive thru” system using the large tent. The swap meet begins after car pictures are taken.

Saturday Evening. The Awards Banquet Hall will open at 6 PM and the program begins at 7 PM. The guest speaker for the banquet will be Mr. John Weiss, award winning author of the only Illinois Route 66 guide, Traveling the New, Historic Route 66 of Illinois.
